Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission is original and has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is double-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • All Authors have signed the Copyright and Conflict of Interest Statements
  • All the authors are active participants and contributors to the content of the work to be published
  • Submitted manuscript to JBCAHS is intended to be published
  • All Authors identifiable data is entered and restricted to the Title Page and not present in the Full Article Page

Author Guidelines




SBV Journal of Basic, Clinical and Applied Health Science, (JBCAHS) is a biomedical open access journal published quarterly. It publishes reviews, original research papers, short communications, research correspondence/letters to editor, Opinion/Hypothesis/Viewpoint, interesting images, emerging techniques, case reports and book reviews from basic sciences, medical, dental and nursing specialties including allied health sciences. It also welcomes articles pertaining to translational research.

Our journal follows the recommendations and guidelines of International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) for Reporting, Editing, and Publication of Scholarly Work in Medical Journals. The criteria for authorship and acknowledgement are to be decided as per their guidelines. For more details authors are advised to refer the website

This journal is published with four issues in January, April, July and October of each year.


A manuscript will be reviewed for possible publication with the understanding that it is being submitted to the journal alone and has not been published anywhere. Authors need to certify in the covering letter that this manuscript has not been submitted to any other journal simultaneously.

All manuscripts are subject to peer review process.   All manuscripts are screened initially at the editorial office for suitability for consideration for publication. Those found suitable are sent to 2-3 technical reviewers and one statistical expert based on the need. The journal follows the double-blind peer review process.            

After peer review process, manuscripts considered suitable for publication are suitably edited before publication.

All articles will be screened for plagiarism and manuscripts with substantial plagiarism will be immediately rejected. The authors are strongly encouraged to review their manuscript and avoid plagiarism before submitting to the journal.

The processes of submission of manuscript, peer review, communication of final decision and sending proofs are done through online system.


1. Review articles

Review articles and systematic reviews are normally invited from scientist(s) / expert(s) working in the particular area for several years. However, authors who have made significant contribution in their research areas can also submit review articles. The article should not be more than 3500 words with not more than 100 references (recent & relevant) and a structured abstract of about 250 words. Tables and Figures could be included as per requirement.

2.Original articles

The size of the original articles should not exceed more than 3000 words (excluding Abstract, references and Tables). It should have separate sections of structured abstract (max 250 words) and key-words, introduction, material and methods, results, discussion and references, Tables and Figures should be given in separate pages with suitable legends. Each Table and Figure should be self-explanatory and stand alone. About 35 references can be included.

3. Short Communications

Short communications would be about 2000 words and contain an abstract with a combined Results & Discussion section. It can have maximum of 2 tables or figures (or) 1 table and 1 figure. The total number of references should not exceed 15. 

4. Research Correspondence / Letter to Editor

 A research correspondence would be either a preliminary/pilot study or a post-implicative report with no abstract. It can be around 1000 words and can contain either a Table or a Figure.  The total number of references should not exceed 6.


These are opinions/hypothesis based on scientific evidence that should be about 1000-1500 words. No anonymous articles will be published.

6. Interesting Images

Clinical images that are rare/interesting may be presented under this section. High resolution images (up to 3-4 or as panels; JPEG/TIFF format with at least 300 dpi resolution) along with the write up of around 250 words describing diagnosis, treatment methods inclusive of patient consent form should be submitted.

7. Case reports

New, interesting and rare cases can be reported. Cases with clinical significance or implications will be given priority. These communications should be up to 1000 words (excluding abstract and references) and should have a structured abstract along with up to 10 references.


The Journal does not charge for submission and processing of the manuscript.

All manuscripts submitted for publication should encompass:


The title page should contain 

  1. Type of manuscript
  2. Title of the study
  3. Name of the authors (the way it should appear in the journal), departmental affiliation, institutional address, university affiliation, phone numbers and email address
  4. Name of the corresponding author with email i.d.
  5. Running title
  6. The total number of pages, total number of figures/image and word counts separately for abstract and for the text (excluding the references and abstract).
  7. Source(s) of funding (if any)
  8. Conflict of Interest, if any in detail
  9. Acknowledgement - should recognize scientific/technical assistance and financial support only. It should not be given for providing routine departmental facilities, encouragement and for help in the preparation of the manuscripts (including typing or secretarial assistance).
  10. Ethical Clearance (If relevant) 


Please upload a blinded manuscript (without author information) containing the following


Manuscripts (excluding research correspondence/letters to editor, Opinion/ Hypothesis/ Viewpoint, interesting images and book reviews) should have a structured abstract with the following subheadings: Background & Objectives, Material and Methods, Results, and Conclusions.


 A set of 4-6 key words should be provided. The key words should not be taken from the title of the study


The introduction should have brief review of literature, highlight the lacunae in the existing knowledge, justification and objectives of carrying out the study.


The procedures used in the study should be clearly stated so that other researchers could reproduce the published results later in their work. Standard methods need to be mentioned with genuine references. Experiments on human subjects and animals should be in accordance with the established ethical standards. Appropriate information should begiven on the care and use of laboratory animals, source of animals, strain, age, sex, housing and nutrition. If required, proper certification should be provided along with the submission of the manuscripts. Generic name(s), dosage(s) and route(s) of administration of the drugs and chemicals used should be clearly indicated.


The type of statistical test used and the software should be mentioned. The authors are encouraged to mention the exact p value.


Data generated from the study should be included. Interpretation of the data should not be presented under the Results.


The discussion should contain the interpretation of results without repetition of the information already mentioned under Results. Limitations of the study should also be mentioned. The conclusions can be related with the aim of the study.


The journal follows the Vancouver system of referencing. The cited references should be sequentially numbered and kept at the end of the manuscript. In the pertinent text, they should be indicated as superscript.

Tables should be presented separately and numbered serially. Short title and column headings should be written. Abbreviated Units of measurement should be mentioned below the specific column headings. All other non-standard abbreviations should be mentioned in the footnotes of each table. Statistical measurement variations like SD and SE should be indicated. Tables should be provided at the end of the text after the references. The table number should be cited at the relevant place in the text. Tables should not be submitted as images.


Figures should be submitted as separate images. High resolution images (JPEG/TIFF format with at least 300 dpi resolution).

Published material need to be duly acknowledged and if required, copyright must be submitted along with the written permission of the copyright holder.


Only standard abbreviations are to be used. They must conform to the International System of Units (SI), in the text, Tables and Figures. Generic names of the drugs should be used, however, if proprietary brands are used in research, brand name, name of manufacturer and country should be provided in brackets after the generic name at the first place of use.


Individual contributions of all authors of the manuscript need to be specified on the title page.

Authorship credit should be based only on substantial contributions to each of the three components mentioned below:

  1. Concept and design of study or acquisition of data or analysis and interpretation of data;
  2. Drafting the article or revising it critically for important intellectual content; and
  3. Final approval of the version to be published.

 Authorship cannot be justified based on participation solely in the acquisition of funding or the collection of data. General supervision of the research group is also not enough for authorship.

Protection of Patients' Rights to Privacy

Identifying information should not be published in written descriptions, photographs, sonograms, CT scans, etc., and pedigrees unless the information is essential for scientific purposes and the patient (or parent or guardian, wherever applicable) gives written informed consent for publication. When informed consent has been obtained, it should be indicated in the article and copy of the consent should be attached with the covering letter. 


All authors must disclose any financial and personal relationships with other people or organizations that could inappropriately influence (bias) their work. If there are no conflicts of interest, authors should state so.


All studies conducted on patients/ volunteers/ human biological material/ animals should follow Ethical Guidelines and a statement to this effect should be made in the manuscript. If requested a scanned copy of Ethical Clearance Certificate should be submitted to the Editorial office.


All the authors should give an undertaking (in the format designed by the journal) showing their consent to be co-authors in the order mentioned on the title page.

Author(s) need to sign a transfer of copyright agreement, which identifies the common interest that both journal and author(s) have in the protection of copyright.


The revised version of the manuscript should be submitted online in a manner similar to that used for submission of the manuscript for the first time. However, there is no need to submit the “First Page” or “Covering Letter” file while submitting a revised version. When submitting a revised manuscript, contributors are requested to include, the ‘referees’ remarks along with point to point clarification at the beginning in the revised file itself. In addition, they are expected to mark the changes as underlined or colored text in the article.


Proofs for accepted manuscripts will be sent to the Corresponding author through e-mail. These must be returned to the Journal Office within 3 days through e-mail.


Reprints The corresponding author will be provided a pdf file of the paper after its publication in the Proceedings. No hard copy reprints are provided.
